finding the inverse

To find the inverse of a one-to-one function, do the following:
1. If the function is written in function notation, replace f(x) with y.
2. Swap any x in the function with y, and vice versa, i.e., y=x+2 becomes x=y+2.
3. Solve for y, then replace y with f-1(x).
